TREK Job Extravaganza gives students hands-on career exploration
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - Career exploration took center stage at the Rankin County Safe Room and Conference Center as part of a TREK Job Extravaganza.
Hosted by Goodwill Industries of Mississippi and the Department of Rehabilitation Services, the event drew over 100 students with diverse learning needs from the Madison, Pearl and Rankin school districts.
Unlike a traditional job fair, the TREK Job Extravaganza gave students a hands-on look at a variety of career paths.
Students were able to speak directly with business leaders, ask questions and experience real-world job tasks.
“Goodwill has so many different facets of our mission to help transform lives through lifelong learning and meaningful work,” a Goodwill representative said. “Job Extravaganza is one of those things that we do with these diverse learning needs students. We do it during the school year, and we give these people the opportunity to come out and experience these jobs.”
The representative said Goodwill also offers a variety of programs in the community.
27 local businesses and organizations participated.
