New Micro Market at the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) celebrated the grand opening of a new Micro Market operated under the MDRS Business Enterprise Program (BEP). The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held at MDWFP headquarters on Eastover Drive in Jackson, brought together agency leaders and staff to commemorate the launch of this innovative self-service market. The Micro Market will provide convenient food and beverage options to MDWFP employees while advancing the mission of the BEP—supporting entrepreneurship and economic independence for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Administered by the MDRS Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), the BEP equips licensed blind vendors with the tools, training, and ongoing support needed to successfully own and operate their own businesses. Micro Markets like this one are exclusively available to government entities in Mississippi, offering on-site food service options while creating business opportunities for blind entrepreneurs. Speaking at the celebration were (from left) Lynn Posey, executive director, MDWFP; Eddie Turner, Micro Market operator and BEP vendor; Desmond Gaddis, business enterprise program deputy director; and Curtis Thornhill, deputy executive director of MDWFP.
